In the morning we meet at 5.40 am at SONATI. At 6 am we take the bus to Colocondo where we will arrive at around 7 am (Saturdays the bus leaves at 5.30 am). The trek starts uphill for about an hour along tracks and fields, passing through a transitional forest and some farms to a panoramic view down to the “Quebrada Colocondo”. After a short steep downhill-section we enter the tropical dry forest where monkeys and other forest animals, especially birds, can often be spotted. The ground is quite stony here, and another short steep section brings us to the river Colocondo.
We follow up the river valley through a beautiful gallery forest, crossing the river several times. Be careful, sometimes the trail is pretty rough. After about 45 minutes we reach the stunning waterfall and natural pool where we can rest and enjoy a refreshing swim and have lunch, for about one hour.
The return route through the gallery forest and tropical dry forest follows down the river. After a while we climb up a hill, where we can enjoy a beautiful view.
After reaching the top of the hill we go on for about 45 minutes to get to the bus stop and take the bus back to Estelí. Arrival time at SONATI is about 5 pm.Send a tour booking request
